The third grade students have been working on the song Rocky Mountain. They worked on reading the notes do,re,mi,so and la on the music staff. We then added an ostinato and other instrument parts. They did a great job of rotating and learning every part!
The 3rd grade students have been working on composing with B, A, and G on the recorder. They also created their own accompaniment for their piece. They did a great job trying new ideas! Thank you to Gifford Helping Hands for the great instruments we have to use!

The fifth grade classes are working on meter. We will be exploring the meters of 2,3 and 5 through the poem Chick, Chick, Chatterman. They created two beat patterns with partners today.
The third and fourth grade classes have been working on using B, A and G on the recorder. This week the students worked on accompanying the piece and creating a dance for the song as well. Enjoy both of the videos. Each class had a unique ideas for the dance!
The fourth grade class has been reviewing 16th notes with the song Chicken on the Fencepost. They discovered the 16th notes in the song and then we added a game and accompaniment to it. I think they could have played this game all day!
The fourth grade classes have been working on Old Tom White. They worked on playing with a steady beat and focused on a quiet sound on the recorder. We also worked on creative movement. The students explored ways that they could "creep" through space and added some frozen statue poses as well. Thank you again to ILMEA for allowing us to use the instruments this semester!
The fifth grade classes have been working on the song "Haunted House" over the last week. We began by creating movements to poems and then we added some instrumentation and a movement that is complementary of the melody. They did a great job! The third grade students have been working on reading do-mi-sol on the music staff. Last week the students composed "Spooky" songs with Halloween erasers.
In each music class we try to add some fun singing games in order to experience music in a social way. The 4th and 5th grade students have been working on Draw Me a Bucket. We have had a blast!! Hope you enjoy this as well.
The 2nd -5th grade classes worked on rhythm patterns today! They were able to choose the meter that they wanted to use and then composed and practiced the rhythms they wrote.
It's Mallet Madness Monday! The classes worked on moving higher and lower on the instruments. The 5th grade students worked on alternating their mallets and the 3rd grade students worked on thinking the rhythm of the poem in their heads. The fourth grade classes have been working on reading and playing mi-re-do in music and discovering patterns in songs. This week they took a song with mi-re-do and played it on Orff instruments. They also composed a B and C section about items in a bakery. We put it all together very in an ABACA pattern! We will finish this song with each student writing their own rhythmic composition about food at a bakery. We have been enjoying Mallet Madness Monday! Each Monday we explore musical concepts on the barred instruments. This week we were exploring higher and lower. We also identified that the bigger bars play lower and the smaller bars play higher.
The 3rd grade classes have been working on rhythm reading and writing. Students identified the rhythm in the song Shake Those 'Simmons Down. After working with the rhythm, we added a dance and instrument parts to reinforce steady beat. Enjoy! Fourth Grade students have been working with the song No One In the House and creating contrasting rhythmic sections to the piece. The students composed 4 beat rhythm patterns using quarter notes, 8th notes, 16th notes and rests and then created a body percussion to accompany the rhythms.
The 5th grade class tried their hands at the pitched and unpitched percussion instruments this week! They worked on the poem Out Goes the Rat and improvised the text of the poem on instruments. They also arranged the form of the piece in ABA with a round at the beginning. Enjoy!
