Kindergarten students have been working on understanding how melody moves higher and lower. Today they were able to create and perform their own melodies with yarn!
The first grade classes have been working with rhythm patterns. In this piece they arranged quarter notes, eight notes and rests to create an 8 beat pattern.
The first grade students worked on the song Mill Wheel to celebrate Thanksgiving. We learned about what a mill wheel was and then made our own as we sang the song. We had a great time with this song!
Our kindergarten classes have been working on their singing voices. We do this through a lot of vocal exploration. In October the students took turns having Ghost Talks. Enjoy!

The second grade classes have been working on the game Let Us Chase the Squirrel. We have played a game with it and this week we worked on the rhythm. We are learning about the half note that you hear at the end of the song.
All of our classes work on singing throughout the year. We sing as a whole class on a daily basis, but students also have many opportunities to sing by themselves. The kindergarten classes are just beginning their work with their singing voices.
We love to play singing games! We begin each class with a warm up and singing game. This is a time where the students can work on their singing voices in a fun way and take turns with their friends. The 2nd grade classes have been singing Round De Do Bop and it has quickly become a favorite! Enjoy!
All of our classes are enjoying mallet madness Monday!! We take the day and work on mallet skills and relate them to our concepts in class. This week we worked on playing higher and lower on the barred instruments. We talked about how the bigger bars sound lower and the smaller ones sound higher. Thanks again to the Illinois Music Educators Association for allowing us to borrow these great instruments for a few months!

The second grade students have been working on rhythm and steady beat this year. We applied steady beat to a song and added instruments to it. Ask your child to tell you who had the steady beat in this song. A huge thanks to the Illinois Music Educators Association for letting us borrow these great instruments for a few months!
The first grade students worked on the song Sally Go Round the Sun. They worked on moving within space, singing voices, pattern in music and steady beat.
We had our first Mallet Madness Monday this week! We are so lucky to be able to borrow instruments from the Illinois Music Educators Association for a few months. We worked on mallet technique and rotating to new instruments. Stay tuned for more examples of the students playing these beautiful instruments!
